Our Mission

ArtWorks for Freedom uses the power of art to raise awareness about modern day slavery and human trafficking. Working locally and globally and engaging art in all its forms, we are transforming public perceptions, educating individuals, communities and policy makers, and inspiring action to put an end to modern day slavery.

What We Do

We galvanize community-based awareness and public education campaigns that combine exhibits, performances, film series, lectures and creative opportunities for dialogue to draw attention to human trafficking and to empower individuals and communities to be part of the solution to this human rights tragedy.

HOW IT WORKS

We Create Partnerships

We work with activists, organizations and funders who champion the campaign in a local area, ensure on-the-ground participation and manage local fundraising.  Such community-based activities around a common goal strengthen networks and expand the reaches of many smaller organizations.

We Design Campaigns

We design a unique campaign that fits the budget and needs of our partners and their community.

Using our expertise as art curators and our international networks, we develop a plan for multiple weeks of events and exhibitions that draw from our portfolio of work by award-winning artist-activists while encouraging participation of local artists and arts organizations.

We provide supporting materials to engage participants during the campaign and help them to discover ways to take action once the events are over.  An interactive web-based mobile site provides quizzes, maps and background information to participants.

We Launch Large and Small Initiatives

We oversee the campaign launch with local partners, sponsors and hosts, participate on-site with exhibitions, lectures and artist talks, and contribute to national promotion via press outreach and social media. Our campaigns have been held in the United States and internationally, including Mumbai, India, Singapore, Phnom Penh and the Netherlands, with events currently planned for Bristol, England, next year.
