Cellist and composer IGNACIO ALCOVER is the founder and Artistic Director of Musica Aperta. Born in Barcelona, he has performed throughout the United States as well as in Europe and the Far East. In Washington, Mr. Alcover appears in concert and records with groups that range from traditional contemporary ensembles such as the 21st Century Consort to the rock techno group Thievery Corporation. Mr. Alcover has been the recipient of grants from the Fundacion Juan March and the Fulbright Commission. He also served on the faculty of the Peabody Institute of Johns Hopkins University and as Faculty Chairman at the Washington Conservatory of Music. He is currently a member of the Washington National Opera and Kennedy Center Opera Orchestra.
