Phnom Penh, 2012
From July 17-21, ArtWorks for Freedom participated in the FREE YOUR MINDS festival hosted by Meta House, Cambodia’s first art/communication/media center. The highlight was a powerful performance by ArtWorks contributing artist Dawn Akemi Saito of her solo theater piece “Suns are Suns,” based on factual accounts of children and women who were victims of sex trafficking. In addition, ArtWorks screened a series of anti-trafficking films and participated in a lively roundtable discussion on how NGOs can use the arts and media to raise awareness about modern slavery.
Multiple local NGOs also joined the campaign, including: APLE, Daughters of Cambodia, SISHA, COSECAM, CARAM, MTV Exit, filmmaker Jocelyn Pederick and Cambodian artist and trafficking survivor Prum Vannak.
