Brooklyn, NY 2014
In 2014, ArtWorks for Freedom partnered with Groundswell, a New York-based organization that engages youth in community and leadership development initiatives through art. Through its Teen Empowerment Mural Apprenticeship (TEMA), ArtWorks worked with 20 youth artists to help them understand human trafficking and support their creation of a 12-panel mobile mural entitled “What You See is Not Who I Am.”
The Groundswell mural project exemplifies ArtWorks’ driving belief that art is a powerful medium to educate and inspire long-term activism. Unveiled in June of 2014, “What You See is Not Who I Am” is now a permanent part of ArtWorks’ arts portfolio available for human trafficking awareness campaigns across the globe.
